Our class is taught by Mrs Malloch-Rear and supported by Mrs Talbot, Mrs Robinson, Miss Marshall, Mrs Ellison and Miss Jones
Summer Term
PE is on Wednesdays and Fridays and Y6 will also be going swimming on a Tuesday.
Homework will be issued on a Friday and should be returned on a Wednesday. Y6 will be focused on SATs books.
We will continue to have French delivered by Mrs Adams every fortnight. In PSHE, we will explore
mental health and how to emphasise our wellbeing when we are stressed.
This term our topic is based around History called Groundbreaking Greeks. We will be learning all about
the Ancient Greeks, how they lived, their democracy and the geography of Greece. We will also be
studying significant Athenians and how they have influenced our lives.
In Science, we are studying properties and changes of materials. This will involve testing materials and
looking at solubility, conductivity and how materials mix. Then we will explore different changes – some
are reversible and some are not.
In Art we are learning about mixed media and how to create pieces using different forms of paper. We
will also look at significant artists linked to this topic.
In RE, we are exploring Hinduism and comparing it to other religions we know.
During the term, our English units will centre around some short animation films, such as Road’s End and
Catch a Lot. We will write pieces focusing on dialogue to practise our speech punctuation. We will also
plan and write scenes from different viewpoints. During Term 6, we will also explore how to write letters
of complaint in both formal and informal styles. We will continue to work on our spelling and grammar
skills, ready for the Y6 SATs and Y5 end of year assessments.
In Maths we will cover a range of topics including ratio, algebra, position and direction, statistics and
how to convert units of measurement. Remember you can use the home learning videos on the White
Rose Website to keep up to date with what we are learning about.
Spring Term
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday.
Homework is sent out on Friday and should be returned on Wednesday.
On Tuesdays, we will have DAaRT sessions focused on PSHE topics and delivered by an expert. We will also continue to have French delivered by Mrs Adams every fortnight.
This term our topic is based around Geography called Sow, Grow and Farm. We will be learning about the land use in the UK and agriculture. As we go through the topic, we will explore the plant and animal life cycles, different types of farming, how far food travels and seasonality.
In Science, we are studying animal and human reproduction by looking at their life cycles and what happens at each stage of a human life.
In Art we are learning about line, light and shadow - including a study of Picasso. We will then study nature's art and create relief forms. Design and Technology will involve exploring seasonal eating and devising our own recipes.
In RE, we are going to investigate the creation story and discuss the impact of science and whether this is conflicting or complementary.
During the term, our English units will centre around the book Kenuke's Kingdom. We will write alternative chapters using our narrative skills and then explore the elements of persuasive writing. After this, we will link with our Geography unit and write balanced arguments about food importation. There will also be the opportunity to create free verse poetry using the book The Lost Words.
In Maths we will cover a range of topics including multiplying fractions, decimals, the link between fractions, decimals and percentages and area and perimeter. Remember you can use the home learning videos on the White Rose Website to keep up to date with what we are learning about.
Autumn Term
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday.
Homework is sent out on Friday and should be returned on Wednesday.

Pink Pig Farm - June 2026
In June, we visited the Pink Pig Farm to learn all about agriculture and support our learning from our Sow, Grow and Farm topic in Geography. It was a brilliant, hands-on day where we learnt all about crops, different farm animals and also the machinary used in daily farming. We even got to feed the animals!
The Knife Angel Newark - May 2026
In May, we visited the Knife Angel sculpture in Newark. The Knife Angel (officially the National Monument Against Violence & Aggression) is a 27-foot (8-meter) tall sculpture created by artist Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre in Shropshire. Constructed from over 100,000 seized and surrendered knives, it serves as a powerful memorial and a nationwide educational tool against knife crime.
The children enjoyed the day and learnt a lot about knife crime, first aid and created their own versions of the angel.
Design and Technology - March 26
In Geography and Design and Technology, we have been learning about seasonal foods. First, we tried a selection of raw and cooked options - we preferred some much more than others! We then used our skills to prepare seasonal vegetables and cook a delicious soup!
Art - February 26
We have been studying natural art and creating our own relief pieces using natural items. We thought about the composition and colours to create the most impact! We have also been sketching still life images of flowers and other debris from nature.
Science - January 26
In our science lessons, we have been studying reproduction. This has included both plants and animals so we disected a daffodil to examine the sex organs and label them all.
Christmas party 2025!
The children had a fabulous time partying to some great Christmas tunes with Class 2! We had some snacks, played some games and enjoyed the end of term.
Christingle December 25
Ahead of the annual Christingle service in church, Y5 and Y6 created the Christingles for every child in school. We learnt all about the importance of each part of the Christingle and were very proud of how they looked.
MP'S CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION
We were delighted that our pupil Alexander won this from over 600 entries. Dr Johnson prsented Alexander's prize and his card will be sent all over the conutry and even to the King!
Creating Taotie pieces - November 25
During our Shang Dynasty topic, we created Taotie pieces in art. We learnt how to make moulds using clay and then poured plaster mix into these for our final designs!
Exploring sundials - October 25
In our Space topic, we have been learning about the Earth being spherical and how we understand night and day. As part of this, we created our own sundials.
TT Rockstars battle - October 25
Well done to all the children playing TT Rockstars regularly! These 6 children were the top players in each team during the recent batlle.
Y6 Construction Day - September 25
The Y6 children have been on a fantastic trip to learn all about construction. They met with businesses and took part in lots of practical activities, such as bricklaying and making their own bird houses.
PGL
We had a wonderful time at PGL! We had great fun doing many different activities this year including vertical challenge, giant swing, raft building, campfire and zip line. We enjoyed marshmallows by the campfire and hot chocolate while watching Eurovision! If you would like to see any more of the pictures, please email school as we are happy to share them.

Y6 Construction Day
We had a great day at Construction Day. We started by getting a little messy at plastering. Then we went on to a teamwork task which involved building with dominos. Then we explored 2 more teamwork tasks on making a robotic hand and transporting goods across the sea.
Y6 Multi Skills at NK
We all tried our best to score as many points as possible. We found out that we were very good at some activities we had never tried before AND that all our PE skills came in handy!
