Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid. Little by little, the bird makes his nest.
We are linguists, learning to speak another language.
Intent
At Swinderby Primary School, our intent is to provide an outstanding French curriculum that instills a love for the French language and promotes cultural understanding. We believe that learning a foreign language not only enhances students' linguistic abilities but also broadens their horizons and celebrates diversity. Our aim is for every child to develop the necessary skills to communicate effectively in French, fostering a positive attitude towards language learning that will last a lifetime.
Implementation
Well-Structured Curriculum
Our French curriculum is carefully designed to ensure progression and continuity across all year groups. It is aligned with the National Curriculum and covers the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We follow a topic-based approach, incorporating real-life scenarios and cultural aspects to make language learning meaningful and engaging. We plan a bespoke scheme of work to ensure lessons are carefully sequenced, allowing for progression across KS2.
High-Quality Teaching
Teachers use a variety of teaching methods, such as interactive games, songs, role-plays, and authentic resources, to cater to different learning styles and deepen students' understanding.
Formative Assessment and Feedback
We utilize ongoing formative assessment strategies to monitor pupils' progress, identify areas of strength and areas requiring further development, and provide timely and constructive feedback. Our assessment practices also help inform lesson planning, adapt teaching strategies, and personalize learning to meet individual needs.
