INTENT:

Swinderby All Saints wants every child to have the opportunity to enjoy Music for pleasure, inspire creativity and encourage self-expression.We hope that the curriculum fosters a lifelong love of music by exposing them to musical instruments and different types of music.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Key Stage One: Reception to Year 2

Music is taught and enjoyed every week when there is opportunity to sing, perform or play a percussion instrument.  Music is embedded in assemblies, performances, special events such as Harvest, Remembrance Day and Christmas.  The school uses the new 'Sing up' Music curriculum on a 2 year cycle. 

Years 3 to 6

The Lincolnshire Music Service work with each class for one hour a week when children are taught the principles of music within their class topics.  They have the opportunity to play instruments during these sessions and to perform to a variety of audiences. They use a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments.  In doing so they understand the different principles of creating notes, as well as how to devise and read their own musical scores and basic music notation.  They compose or perform music using body percussion, vocal sounds or technology and learn how to use musical annotation in their work.

In addition, they have the opportunity to join the school choir, take part in 1:1 music lesson if requested (lessons are offered privately in MOST instruments including guitar, piano, violin and ukele) and to perform to a wider audience.  This includes taking part in the Lincoln Music Festival, Young Voices and  performances to guests and within school and wider community.

INTENDED IMPACT:

• Children have the opportunity to perform and enjoy music
• Children will understand the different genres of music and find types that they like/ dislike
• Children will be able to talk about music from different places in the world incl. those from different ethnicities and cultures 
• Children will be able to look at how music has changed over time
• Be confident performing to a wider audience
