INTENT:
We aim to provide an inclusive PE curriculum to allow pupils to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of sports. We ensure that lessons are engaging, inspiring and motivational. Our goal is that throughout school children build a positive relationship and attitude towards physical activity both in and outside of school and, have a secure understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and being active. Staff will mirror the same positive and enthusiastic attitudes.
In order to ensure that all children leave Swinderby All Saints Primary School with a high level and range of skills, we have put together a ‘Progression of Skills Framework’.
IMPLEMENTATION:
- High quality lessons delivered by following the scheme PE Plan
- We strive to inspire children to participate in a variety of sports through quality first teaching.
- Environment where pupils can feel confident and safe.
- Teachers model skills and ask questions throughout lessons to check children’s understanding and improve children’s performance.
- Opportunities for pupils to lead sessions/activities.
- Positive feedback is given throughout each lesson.
- 2 hours of PE a week – 1 hour led by Class Teacher and 1 hour led by Premier Education.
- Swimming lessons off site are provided to KS2 year groups.
- Pupils assessed weekly by Class Teacher and Premier Education to ensure that clear progression is made, and all individual needs/abilities are met.
- Pupils have access to quality equipment for a variety of sports.
- Opportunities to participate in extra-curricular clubs.
- Hosting of half term Sports camps.
- Pupils are encouraged and positively challenged.
- Encouraged to deal and overcome challenges.
Opportunities to participate in inspirational and Whole School Sporting Events occur throughout the year to help raise the profile of Sport and the importance of being active.
IMPACT:
We aim to ensure that pupils can always excel and progress. We measure this through:
- Children to enjoy taking part in sports
- Termly assessments completed by both the Class Teacher and Premier Education Lead
- Ongoing formative assessments
- Hosting of end of term events
- Review of Sports Premium Funding

The Royal Opera House Visit - The Nutcracker
When our Head Teacher happened to hear of some schools in Coventry working with the Royal Opera House she wanted to know why our school couldn't be involved too and from there on the dream grew! This was an opportbuity not to be missed. In September 2023 a group of dancers from the Opera House came to our school to train a number of teachers all linked to the (Kyra Teaching Schools Alliance) in how to deliver dance in their schools. Miss Loom, our Year 6 teacher took the project on and worked with the Year 5 and 6 children to plan and choreograph a performance based on the story of The Nutcracker.
As part of this amazing project the chlidren had the chance to visit London and The Royal Opera House to watch a live performance of 'The Nutcracker.'
On a cold December morning, the children and staff began a long bus journey to Covent Garden in London. The excitement was palpable as eventually red buses and black cabs were spotted! When we got to the magnificent theatre and entered the auditorium the audible gasps of 'Wow' could be heard. For the next two hours the children were transported to a world of toys, magic, sugar plum fairies and mice. Wow! When the weary travellers arrived back in Lincolnshire after 9pm memories had been made and maybe somewhere a small flame had been lit...
Following the visit in December, the children completed working on their performance and were able to showcase it to other schools at The Terry O'Toole theatre, Lincoln. The Royal Opera House dancers were so proud of what the children and their teachers had achieved. The children alos took part in a workshop led by the ROH dancers!
The school looks forward to working with the ROH on another project in the future!
SPORTING EVENTS
TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT. NOVEMBER 2025
This year we have begun a new partnership with Newark Rugby Club this has meant that we are now offering an extra curricular Tag rugby club and in november we entered two teams in a Tag ruby tournamemt at Newark Rugby Union football club. Considering this was our first go at it, we managed to win 5 out of 10 matches.
OLYMPIC DAY
To mark 2024 as the year of the Paris Olympics all the school took part in an enrichment day run by Premier Education. Each pupil was either part of Team Jamaica, Team USA or Team UK. and dressed up accordingly. We even had flag wavers!
The children took part in activities such a goal scoring, javelin throwing and long jump- all competing to be crowned the Gold medal winners.
Team UK were the overall chamopins and crowned in the closing ceremony.

SPORTS DAY. JUNE 2024
The annual Sports Day took place in June. The affternoon was a sunny one with all of the children enjoying competing for their houses. Parents and relatives lined the trackside and the whole Swinderby staff team helped. Some staff even managed a race- another great example of the spirit of Swinderby School!
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
All year groups have the chance to take part in Enrichment activities.
Table Tennis
Years 5 and 6 have enjoyed these sessions this summer term.
Archery for Years R/1 and 2. September 2024.
Miss Walker's class are enjoying their Archery Enrichment sessions this term. They are getting better at reaching the target.
INTER SCHOOLS SPORTS AT NK
All the children in school are given at least one opportunity each academic year to take part in a sporting event alongside other schools. This gives them the chance to meet other children in a competitive environment and have fun whilst staying active.
2025 to 2026
Year 3
On Friday 13th March it was the turn of the Y3's to have a go at the Inter School Sports. Despite not winning a medal they had a great time!
Year 4
On Friday 30th January the Y4's went to NK. A few of their year group were at Young Voices, so they were a bit short of competitors. They do very well, narrowly missing out on 3rd place.
In October it was the turn of the Year 6's to visit NK. A great morning was had by all!
On Friday May 6th the Year 2's went to NK and won a bronze medal and on Friday June 6th it was the turn of Years R and 1. No medals this time but a great effort!
On Friday 17th January the Year 4 children had their turn at the Inter School Sports Competition at NK School. They had fun and returned home with bronze medals! Well done Year 4's! The Year 3's then went on April 26th.
Y5 INTER SCHOOL SPORTS at NK
On Friday 8th November the Y5 children enjoyed taking part in the Premier Education Inter Schools Sports competition. Even though they didn't win, they found trying out new types of sports a real challenge!
Y2 INTER SCHOOL SPORTS
On Friday April 26th the Y2 children were able to demonstrate their sporting skills taking part in sporting activities against other schools. They had great fun and were a credit to the school and themselves!
BIKEABILITY. APRIL 2024
The Year 5's took part in a week of training to attain Levels 1 and 2 on their bikes. The rigorous training involved lots of cycling around the village and manoevres on their bikes. We are very proud of the life skills that will serve them well in life.
Let Girl's Play Football!
On Friday 8th March, as part of International Women's Day, a group of 8 Year 3 and 4 girls were invited to go to The City School, Lincoln to play in a 5 a side football tournament. The girls had great fun and came 6th in the festival. They played their herats out and for some of the girls it was the first time playing properly. A special shout out goes to Hannah who scored 6 goals in the tournament.
On Friday March 1st it was the turn of the Year 3's to take part in the inter school sporting events with Premier Education. They may have been small in number but thet made up for it with energy and enthusiasm! They didn't win but had a great time taking part and that's what it's all about. Enjoying sport and feeling good!
On Friday 12th January 2024 the Y4's took part in a sporting event at NK School alongside other primary schools. they had great fun and kept active too!
