Mental Health and Wellbeing at Swinderby!
Our Mental Health Intent Statement…
At Swinderby All Saints Primary School we are passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people. We believe in teamwork; working with each other, with the wider school community and most importantly with the young people in our school. We do this by building a safe and inclusive community, encouraging all to value their self-worth, flourish and achieve their full potential. Whatever issues our pupils, their families, the school, our team or the community face, we always support, react and pull together. We are committed to supporting and making a difference. This is a reflection of the school’s curriculum intent statement and core values, in particular ‘Compassion’, ‘Forgiveness’, ‘Truthfulness’ and ‘Respect’.
Well-being Wednesdays!
Every Wednesday is Well-being Wednesday where a new challenge will be set each week to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in our school.
This Week's Challenge:
This week's challenge is:
Take a break!
In the staff room there are a selection of biscuits. Your challenge is to take a little break before the end of term! Even if it is 5 minutes to sit and enjoy a biscuit and a cup of tea, just have those 5 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of school life and breathe!
Previous Activities:
- Kindness buddies
- What's Your 3?! - at the end of the day think of 3 positive things or 3 things which went well that day. It would be great to promote this within the classroom too and encourage children at the end of the day to be thinking of positive things from the day!
-Positive thoughts - 'Jar of Positivity' - this can be helpful for when you're feeling a bit low or if you need a little pick me up, you can take a note from the jar and it can remind you how amazing you are!
-'Treat Yourself'
We are all extremely busy, but finding time for yourself is so important. Your challenge is to make some time for yourself each day, whether it is 15 minutes to sit and read your favourite book, to go on a walk at lunch time or a few minutes to dance to your favourite song.
-'Mindful Breathing'
Mindfulness activities can help us to be in the present and can help reduce stress and feel calm. As weeks in school can be busy, please take a moment each day to try this mindfulness breathing challenge:
-'Being Grateful'
The gratitude challenge also - Can you think about what you are grateful for? It can be very simple things like the sunshine, family, food... Bringing out the postive things in our life can help promote positive mental health.
Did you know?...
The average child laughs about 300 times a day. An adult only 20. Studies show that laughter can help relieve pain, bring greater happiness and even increase immunity. So, you could try putting on a video clip, re-living a memory, or watching an episode of your favourite feel-good programme!
